COLLONGES AU MONT D’OR

Collonges au Mont d’Or in the heart of the Greater Lyon area was originally a Roman town and enjoys a fabulous setting straddling the Monts d’Or Massif and the Val de Saône.   With a population of nearly 50,000, 8,800 jobs and 1,200 companies, the Val de Saône and Monts d’Or are a key development hub and population centre in the Greater Lyon area.

The town of Collonges has some characteristic structures and buildings related to the creation of water supplies (a two-hour-long walk called “Le Chemin d’eau” visits all these sites) and an outstanding group of buildings on the slopes of Mont Cindre: the Eglise Saint Nizier du Vieux Collonges, the Montgelas Estate, the Maison Bonnamour and the Château de Tourvéon and the Château de Chavannes, etc.

A History and Heritage work group was created in 2014:  it carries out varied research into areas such as architectural heritage, daily life, wartime periods and past agricultural and economic activities.
